Planning urban energy systems adapting to extreme weather

چکیده

In the context of increasing urbanization and climate change globally, urban energy systems (UES) planning needs adequate consideration change, particularly to ensure supply during extreme weather events (EWE) such as heatwaves, floods, typhoons. Here we propose a two-layer modeling framework for UES considering impact EWE. An application typical coastal city Xiamen, China reveals that deploying storage (i.e., pumped hydro battery) offers significant flexibility critical demand is met typhoon EWE avoids over investment in technologies. This requires an extra 2.8% total cost on operation 20 years. Planning with proper can robust services even penetration fluctuating renewables, offer flexible computationally efficient paradigm

Multi-Agent Systems for Urban Planning

Cities provide homes for over half of the world’s population, and this proportion is expected to increase throughout the next century. The growth of cities raises many questions and challenges for urban planning including which cities and regions are most likely to grow, what the pattern of urban growth will be, and how the existing infrastructure will cope with such growth. One way to explore ...
